Single Plane Golf
Swing

The concept of the single plane golf swing has been around
since the book, “The Plane Truth for Golfers” was published and
ever since then, golfers around the world have debated whether
they are double plane or single plane golfers.
In the golf swing there is two possible planes, the single and
the double plane. The difference has to do with the arms and
shoulders whereas in a single plane, these stay locked together
make a fairly consistent triangle throughout the swing however
in the double plane swing, the elbows are unlocked which
results in a higher back swing and ultimately in more power and
torque created before making contact with the
ball.
There is no real right or wrong way to swing a golf club and as
a matter of fact like virtually any action we do on a daily
basis, there is more than one way to accomplish a great swing
and thus the two planes of a golf swing.
The truth of the matter is that it comes down to the clear
difference between a hobby golfer and one who is more
competitive in the sport. Most hobby golfers are single plane
golfers as there is no need to beat the others on your party.
Because the double plane results in the unlocking of the elbow
and more of a snapping arc during the swing, the amateur golfer
should almost prefer the single plane golf swing as it is
easier to ensure that the contact with the ball is done
correctly every time without worrying if the elbows and writs
are in the right spot moments before impact.
So when it comes to the major differences, the single plane
golf swing may not produce as much power or torque or even send
the ball the farthest; it is a simpler swing for any hobbyist
golfer. Regardless of the swing type you choose though,
remember to have fun, golf is a game which anyone can enjoy and
still be good at no matter what condition your body is in. The
ultimate goal for any golfer is consistency and the single
plane golf swing offers the golfer the most consistency due to
the simplicity of the actual swing but the choice is yours and
yours alone to make because everyone’s swing is completely
unique to them and what may work for someone else, may not work
for your swing.
