Golf Tips For Beginners

For anyone who is just starting to play golf, they are trying to catch up with their friends or colleagues and as a result they are looking for golf tips for beginners. There are a number of things that you can do to improve your game and doing so now while you are still a beginner is very important before your swing becomes too engrained in your subconscious.

For starters, hitting the ball farther does not mean that you have to be a big person with a lot of leverage behind the club. Remember that the club is almost 3 foot long and that alone can make a substantial amount of power due to all of the actual weight being on the other end of the club in the head.

When setting up for your shot, you should make a triangle with your arms and let the shoulders and the club’s grip be the corners. The club should be straight up and down at this point with the ball just slightly in front of this center line. When starting your back swing you want to keep this triangle the same size and pivot your hip backwards during the back swing. Once your arms are parallel with the ground and still in their triangle, the wrists should be bent so that the club is perpendicular with the ground.

Start the downswing like it is a race between the butt of the club and the head. For the better part of the downswing, the butt needs to be in front of the rest of the club with the club snapping forward at the final second for the win. This helps to generate the most power in the swing and also creates a farther drive.

Driving the ball farther though does not mean that it will go straighter; too many beginners “grip” the club because that is what the name entails. In reality you should only be holding on to the club just hard enough to prevent it from flying from your hands during the swing. Gripping the club too tightly will result in slicing the ball each and every time.

Above all though, take time to learn golf course etiquette as it can save you a lot of hassles on the green. Failure to learn this can also get you booted and banned from some golf course so in order to prevent this, just make sure that you know, understand and follow golf course etiquette.
